The Aromatherapy Health Connection
The aromatherapy health connection has been made, according to many aromatherapy experts.Using essential oils and other plant extracts aromatherapy is used for the purpose of improving health, increasing productivity, enhancing mood and more. The major basis behind aromatherapy is that scent is very powerful for certain areas of the brain. Pure aromatherapy usually involves essential oils and can be done a variety of ways. The aroma can be infused into the air, wafted under the nose or used in a massage and/or bath oil.
You can safely practice essential aromatherapy at home, just purchase the essential oils and devise a way to inhale the beautiful aromatic scents. The only word of caution is to avoid applying undiluted essential oils to the skin as this may cause irritation. You can use essential oils on the skin, however they must be well diluted in a carrier oil like olive, jojoba, grapeseed or apricot to name several. The carrier oil you need depends on your skin type. For example, jojoba is light enough for oily skin while olive oil is ideal for dry skin. Before dropping money on essential oils, research their uses and choose the ones that are suited to your needs.
You will find most of the information you need in books that teach aromatherapy and the oils and devices necessary.. For example, eucalyptus is ideal for opening the sinus passages. Lavender is a very calming scent. Lemon essential oil is thought to be a mood elevator and stress reliever. If you're looking to put together a love potion, the essential oils of rose, ylang ylang and sandalwood are said to be an aphrodisiac. Jasmine and peppermint are recommended scents for increasing worker productivity. There are just some of the oils available and their traditional aromatherapeutic uses.
Aromatherapy treatment is not for everyone, so before using it consult your physician first, especially if you are being treated for an ailment. Some scents, like basil, should not be used by pregnant women. Also if you are using a topical application for a particular medical purpose it is wise to get checked out by your physician for a diagnosis and treatment. Aromatherapy can be the sole remedy for some conditions like increasing cognitive sharpness or boosting a lagging libido but for other conditions like joint pain or influenza for example it should be used in conjunction with professional medical treatment received from your doctor.
